Pursuing Projects

At the beginning of the year we chaired the inclusive urban design segment at Manchester City council's first international "towards an age-friendly city" conference, and in preparation we ran a stakeholder workshop in order to produce a collaborative agenda.

These, formal, staff organised workshops are used to develop community engagement confidence and skills in the students and to give them networking opportunities in order to develop their own community connections. The workshops are directed towards engaging a wide range of stakeholders of diverse ages, attitudes and occupations and act as a way of discussing the unit agenda and its relationship to wider social and political issues and positions. The students' projects emerge from these initial engagements and the people and issues that they encounter.

Alongside these engagement workshops we have undertaken design workshops and critical ideas research involving film-making.
