Advocating Inclusion

The 6th yrs are asked to follow a programme for a design project going through stages similar to RIBA AB, C,D and E, but in the context of a unit demanding projects which have a socially transformative dimension: in response Emily Crompton has designed and included additional stages in the RIBA plan of work and the ARB part II criteria to include and value the community engagement work the unit undertakes. They are given no site, no programme and are asked to identify a real client - and produce their own engagement events in order to both drive and embed their projects in particular, real communities. For example - Thomas Petch has developed his project for an Aerobic Digestion facility and visitor attraction as a serious and professional - pro-bono - alternative to a proposed biomass incinerator, doing so working with local campaigners and national experts.
